Barbara Lang, born in 1910, attended Lowestoft Secondary School (now Ormiston Denes Academy) from 1923 to 1929 when she was Head Girl.

She returned to The Denes High in 2010 to help celebrate the school’s centenary. The following year, just after enjoying her 100th birthday, The Lowestoft Journal reported on a further visit that Barbara made to the school when she met chemistry students, had lunch and enjoyed a tour of the school.

Barbara was one of the earliest students to attend Nottingham University and she went on to become Chief Pharmacist at Lowestoft Hospital.

Her eldest brother John, at age 16, was the first winner of the Victor Ludorum Trophy established under Headmaster Mr McArthur. John later became Alderman and Mayor of Lowestoft.

Brother Donald became a government scientist and was awarded an OBE.

Barbara passed away peacefully on 16 June 2014 at Estherere House, Lowestoft.
