Governor biographies

Ben Driver, Principal

Ben joined the Academy as Interim Principal in September 2016, becoming permanent in January 2017. Previous to this, Ben was Vice Principal at the Outstanding-rated Ormiston Victory Academy in Costessey, Norwich. During his time at Victory, Ben has helped oversee outstanding student progress in subjects across the curriculum, and achieve excellent GCSE and A-level results. Ben has lived and worked in both Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth for most of his teaching career.

Tina Ellis, Chair of Governors and Community Governor

Formerly a civil servant with DWP, responsible for Job Centre delivery in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk districts and Director of Skills and Competitiveness Partnerships for the Regional Development Agency for 18 months before taking early retirement.  Currently Vice Chair of Governors at East Coast College and a member of the Lowestoft and Waveney Chamber of Commerce Executive.  Hobbies include swimming, walking and reading, and Tina is a crossword fan.  Before becoming a Community Governor for Ormiston Denes Academy, Tina was an LEA Governor at The Denes High School.

Kate Gill, Vice Chair and Community Governor

Kate has had a career in NHS management, most recently as Deputy Chief Executive at Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group.  In December 2016, she decided to step down from full time paid employment in order to pursue a selection of charitable and voluntary sector activities.  She is chair of the Norfolk Community Transport Association, a trustee of Centre 81 in Great Yarmouth and a trustee of Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind.  During her time in the NHS, Kate was a key player in the ‘Lowestoft Rising’ initiative, which closely involved schools, amongst others, in helping to raise levels of aspiration and community cohesion.   Kate is married and lives near Lowestoft.  Her hobbies include gardening, bridge (very amateur) and bell ringing.

Paul Mayne, Community Governor

Currently a Business Bank Manager, Paul is a keen sports fan who runs a local youth football team. He currently chairs the Finance Committee and is also the Literacy link governor

Louise Bernasconi, Parent Governor

Louise is hopeful to be a voice for parents to put their ideas forward, whilst listening to others in order to improve the academy in every way she can.

Jane Webster, Support Staff Governor

Jane has worked at Denes for 16 years as a science technician and for the last 11 years as the senior science technician.  Jane has been a Staff Governor for Denes High School then re-elected for Ormiston Denes Academy.  Jane is also a Community Governor at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy.  She likes the theatre, reading and watching wildlife.
