Excellence in Dance

It takes an athlete to dance, but an artist to be a dancer.”

Shanna Lafleur

At Ormiston Denes Academy, all students have the opportunity to study dance as part of the physical education curriculum and later as a Key Stage 4 option.  In addition students can join The Art, our dance enrichment group who showcase their dances with performances during assemblies, at academy events and in local competitions.

Classes take place in the dance studio, which has a sprung floor, a fully mirrored wall and full lighting, making it the perfect setting for dance training.  Workshops with touring dance and drama companies, and with dancers from companies such as Dance East are also offered to provide alternative repertoire, inspiring students and allowing them to explore their own creativity.

Dance at Ormiston Denes comprises of several styles, such as, street, contemporary and jazz.  All three of these are studied from the perspective of a choreographer and a professional dancer.  We believe that giving students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of genres from different viewpoints provides them with the knowledge and skills required for future study.

Students are able to freely express themselves through the art of dance, as well as increase their brain stimulation, boost their self-esteem, improve their fitness levels and gain a sense of accomplishment that comes with learning a new skill.

Our aims are:

  • To provide high quality teaching that allows students to learn, grow and develop to the best of their abilities.
  • To create an inspirational and fun environment that encourages excellence.
  • To provide students with life skills that can be carried over into whatever career path they may choose.
